Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 1, 2026 · Last updated: September 1, 2026
WaterCompared (“we”, “us”, “our”) is operated by SAP Thumbprint Holdings LLC. This policy explains what we collect when you use watercompared.com (the “Site”), how we use it, and your rights.
Most of the Site collects nothing. You can read every page, look up your ZIP code and use the tools without giving us anything at all. One page asks for contact details.
1. What we collect
Information you provide
When you submit a request through our Find an Installer form, we collect:
- Contact information: full name, email address, phone number and ZIP code
- Project details: whether your water is from a utility or a private well, what you are trying to fix, where a system would be installed, and your property type
- Optional information: free-text notes for the installer
Information collected automatically
- Marketing attribution: UTM parameters (source, medium, campaign) that tell us how you found the Site
- Consent records: when you check the consent box, we record the exact consent text displayed, the time you checked it, your IP address, and the version of the consent language, as required for TCPA compliance
What we do not collect
- Social Security numbers or government IDs
- Financial information or credit card numbers
- Account credentials: we do not require account creation or passwords
- Advertising cookies: we do not run display ads or use ad-targeting cookies
- Photographs or file uploads of any kind
2. How we use your information
- To connect you with installers: when you submit a request, we may share your contact information and project details with licensed water treatment and plumbing installers in your area, and home-services referral partners who maintain networks of such installers. You may be contacted by phone (including via automated technology, autodialed or prerecorded calls), text message (including automated text messages), and email. We may share your information with multiple installers per request. Your consent is not a condition of any purchase.
- To size a system properly: we use your project details, and the water data described in section 4, so an installer can quote the right job.
We do not send marketing emails. There is no mailing list on this Site to be added to. We do not sell your personal information to data brokers.
3. Who we share your information with
- Water treatment and plumbing installers: licensed installers in your area who can quote your project
- Home-services referral partners: services that match homeowners with qualified, licensed installers and may contact you via automated technology
- Infrastructure providers: Supabase (database) hosts our data with industry-standard security
We do not share your information with any parties other than those listed above, except as required by law. No referral partner is signed today and the form is not accepting requests. If that changes, this page and the consent wording will name who receives your details before you are asked for any.
4. Water data we attach to your request
This is specific to this Site and worth stating plainly. We add what we already knew about your ZIP code to your request. You do not type it and we do not ask you for it. That is the measured water hardness for your area, the public water system serving it, and its federal PFAS monitoring status.
It comes from our own published dataset, built from public federal and state records. It describes a postcode, not a person: the same values would be attached to anyone else’s request from the same ZIP code, and nothing in it was derived from you or your behaviour. It travels with your request so an installer can size the job without a guess.
5. Cookies and tracking
We do not currently run any analytics, advertising or session-recording script : no page-view tracking, no funnel analytics, no ad cookies, no session replay. If that ever changes, this page will name the tool and what it receives before it is switched on.
Looking up a ZIP code does not record that you looked it up. Those pages are plain files, generated before the Site was published, and the lookup happens by loading one.
6. Data retention
- Request data (name, email, phone, project details) is retained for up to 24 months, then deleted
- Consent records are retained for as long as we may need to evidence consent, even after a request is deleted. See section 7
7. Your rights
Depending on your state of residence, you may have the following rights under applicable privacy laws (including but not limited to the California Consumer Privacy Act, Colorado Privacy Act, Connecticut Data Privacy Act, and Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act):
- Right to know: request a copy of the personal information we have collected about you
- Right to delete: request that we delete your personal information
- Right to correct: request that we fix information that is inaccurate
- Right to opt out of sale: direct us not to share your personal information with third parties for purposes that constitute a “sale” under applicable law
- Right to non-discrimination: exercise any of these rights without receiving discriminatory treatment
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@watercompared.com. We will respond within 45 days.
If you ask us to delete a request, we remove your contact details and keep the consent row with the identifying fields stripped out, because the record of what somebody agreed to is what protects them as well as us. Tell us if you want it removed entirely and we will do that instead.
8. Do not sell my personal information
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), sharing your information with licensed installers or home-services referral partners in exchange for compensation may be considered a “sale” of personal information. You have the right to opt out.
To opt out, email privacy@watercompared.com with the subject line “Do Not Sell My Information.” We will process your request within 15 business days.
9. Data security
We use commercially reasonable measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and private database access with row-level security. The website itself cannot read anything back: the key that ships in your browser can submit a request and can do nothing else, and only one server-side function can write to the database. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure.
10. Children’s privacy
This Site is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, contact us and we will promptly delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. The consent wording carries a version number, so a request made under an earlier version stays governed by the wording actually shown at the time.
